World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading
Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. item upgrader boost extra bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.
For example a weapon that has the upgrade template that ends in % will gain an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).
The cost of upgrading an item increases as it reaches the current level of the item. The cost increases with item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor in order to give them a stat boost or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading, or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific type of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet ascended or legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defense properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or buying them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.
Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of an item will be available during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their equipment even when they're not sure what will be improved after an update.
The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will become obsolete, or even break, if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items that double or even eliminate possibility of failure, and some upgrades that offer an additional benefit when they are inserted into an item.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets with special functions. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes in the area around them, including pre-existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as you can to level 15.
In the endgame you'll find that the best way to enhance your gear is to place Glyphs. These are the only upgrade component which can be upgraded to level 15 and provide an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without any restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and replace.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with an Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.
Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt can drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs which you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
When you have the desired Glyphs then you have to attach them to your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus which will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It can be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.
Glyphs boost all nodes connected to them, which is why it is best to put Glyphs in strategic spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For example, a Druid should aim to place their Glyphs close to their primary damage points, but you should also be sure to place them near the most critical damage nodes as well.
Leveling
The upgrade system of items allows players to boost the effectiveness of certain items by introducing upgraded components. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has a level that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires a different number of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is leveled up.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained from finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns some Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough points are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When an individual player improves a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced with an item that is new. The same armor can be transformed into the form of a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage in that the item could become more expensive even if you don't need it.
If the player has enough tokens they can roll the upgrade of their item. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will come with the level 1 base, and a totally different set of bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it's not something that should be repeated often, as it can waste a lot of resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and allows the player to modify their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an increase in power when a player is repeatedly in and out of the water (or does not swim as dolphins). This item can be upgraded several times, increasing the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item can be very valuable in PvP as a perfectly rolled version of it could be worth between 20 and 50x its non-upp'd value.
Requirements
The upgrade of items allows players to boost the level of their equippable equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also improve the strength of their base defense and upgrades to weapon items boost their base damage and also increase their strength and dexterity.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear that can be upgraded up to eight times. Every time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The failure rate increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures will result in the item returning to its original state and the player having to spend additional materials than if they had stopped upgrading after the maximum number.
If an item is not upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. Additionally, the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with the effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or speed of reload). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor even after the failure.
When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in the chance of crit the increase is applied prior to any increase in attack damage. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is computed every time an upgrade is applied.
The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are based on its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equal to the value of the base item. For example an item of common use could have five upgrades at a cost. 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Chance. Hero grade items have lower costs per upgrade.
Premium items have different upgrade requirements as compared to standard equipment, for instance, they might require fewer sowels, but more minerals and erons. The player will still need to bring each piece of gear they wish to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade requires an individual amount of ingredients for upgrading.
